- The Files and Folders tabs in the Search Criteria dialog box are always enabled. You no longer have to select Folders under Where To Search to enable them.

Version 4.00 (released November 27, 2001)
- Faster searching. The search algorithm has been rewritten in Visual C instead of Visual Basic.
- Can now edit and save changes to standard text.
- Can now constrain searches by file size.
- Improved user-interface that replaces several dialog boxes with a tabbed-dialog box.
- Now supports the mouse scroll-wheel and smooth text scrolling.
- Searchopia's built-in browser is now used to display the following file types: htm, html, jpe, xml, asp, cgi, pl, php, php3, jsp, gsp, shtml, phtml, cfm, epl, odt, swf, ico and mvp. The user can add or remove file types from this list.
- Added an option to disable the Instant Popup Menus that appear after selecting text with the mouse.
- Can now drag-n-drop folders into the list of favorite search folders. Pressing the Ctrl key while dropping will search subfolders.
- Pressing the Ctrl key while dropping files into Searchopia's list of found files will now add those files to the list.
- Added 10 more user-defined file types for a total of 21.
- Can now exclude selected file types from being searched.
- Eliminated Run-Time Error that occurred when a large amount of text was Pasted into the Terms to search.
- Eliminated Run-Time Error that occurred using Verify to remove favorite folders that no longer existed.

- Eliminated the Run-Time Error that occurred while a search was in progress and the mouse pointer was moved over an empty list of found file names.
- Added an option to Launch applications using a data file's short file name. This is for older applications that don't support long file names.
- The Find On Launch feature can now pass numeric search characters to an application.
- Netscape's Browser can now display Searchopia's Help files.
- The shortcut Ctrl+R will Restore List of previously found files.
- Append Text now separates the current clipboard text from the appended text with a carriage return and line feed.
