Search Criteria Examples
Example 1: Search For All Terms
![]()
A Logical AND Search is where all words and phrases must match. The spaces outside of the quotes are equal to the AND operator. In this example, the file must contain the two phrases and the word "fast". The phrases are enclosed in quotes. The quotes are not included in the search. If the word "fast" was in quotes and the Whole Word option was on, then it would be searched for as a partial word instead of a whole word.
Example 2: Search For Any Term Near First
![]()

A Proximity NEAR Search is where the first word or phrase matches only if subsequent words or phrases match near it. The first space represents the NEAR operator. Subsequent spaces represent the AND/OR operator. This example finds the word "software" when it is near either the word "release" or "upgrade".
The nearness of these terms to the first term is defined under the Proximity tab. In this example, the term "release" or "upgrade" must follow the word "software" within a 50 character range for a match to occur.
Example 3: Search For Single Phrase
![]()
A Single PHRASE Search is where only a single phrase must match. In this type of search, the spaces have no special meaning. In this example, a file must contain the complete phrase which includes the two words and the space between them. Notice that the phrase is not enclosed in quotes. If quotes where used, they would be searched for along with the other characters.
